Tiny houses are gaining popularity. A lot of people are choosing tiny homes as permanent homes over standard brick and mortar houses. Though as the name implies “tiny houses” are tiny and will need you to maximize space to get your necessary things into it. We will be looking into the accepted tiny house size and 22ft tiny house models.

Tiny House Dimensions

Most tiny houses have a standard width of 8.5′ feet, this is the legal maximum width allowed to travel on roads if it is a tiny house on wheels. When your tiny house exceeds this width (2.4384 meters), you will need to apply for a permit.

The standard length of a tiny house can range from 10 feet (3.048 meters) up to 48 feet (14.6304 meters). Trucks fitted to tow a tiny house are commonly 20-23 feet long, so your tiny house can be up to 30 feet long.

There are also height limitations for tiny houses. They cannot be higher than 13.5 feet (4.1148 meters) and have a ceiling height of not more than 10 feet (3.048 meters). How high your tiny house can be is regulated by the height restrictions of the Department of Transportation (DOT). Specifically, you will want your tiny house to fit under bridges and overheads while you drive down the road. So, this is another aspect to consider.

In the case of square footage, tiny houses can range from 60 sq. ft. up to 400 sq. ft. when built on wheels. You can build a bigger one if you are building on a foundation. However, your tiny home can be about 8 feet wide inside, so your length will bring the main change to your square footage. Some tiny houses are about 200sq. ft., most people do not want to tow a large tiny house on wheels.
